Around sometime in 2009, Tim and Sam Watts were working in a cold garage, building away on a project. After needing break after break to go inside and warm up, they began talking about being able to go to a shop that had all the tools, help, and most importantly, temperature control that they needed. Only one problem; such a place didn’t exist!
After doing some research they found out that they weren’t the only ones who were looking for a place like this. So in January of 2011, they opened the doors of North Country Woodshop, but soon changed the name to American Workshop. Even before the doors were officially open, they had their first customer, and American Workshop’s popularity began to grow. The shop began to fill up with people from all walks of life, and the projects were just as diverse. People who had never touched a saw were now completing tables, entertainment centers, and more. It was a great site to see.
American Workshop is more that just a business. It’s a step back to time when people used their hands to build. It’s a place that shows anyone that they too can become craftsmen or craftswomen and create their own plans and ideas. It’s a reminder that the handmade projects also have the best stories behind them. We want to see hands get dirty, we want to see clothes get dusty, we want to see puzzled looks turn to that “ah-ha” moment while working on a project, and we want to see the pride on faces as people leave the shop with their completed projects.
WE DON’T WANT A LACK OF TOOLS OR KNOWLEDGE TO STAND IN THE WAY OF YOU COMPLETING YOUR PROJECTS
If you’ve ever looked at our logo, you’ll notice the words LEARN BUILD CREATE at the bottom. Those three words are our mission for American Workshop, and believe it or now, we actually put those words in that specific order for a reason. Our number one goal is to teach people the art of woodworking. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone with very little skill walk out of the shop with a completed project. Even better though is seeing the confidence on their face, and then seeing them come back to the shop to build their own projects.

WIDE BELT SANDER
The majority of tools at American Workshop are very common woodworking tools, but we do have a couple speciality tools as well. The 36″ Wide Belt Sander is one of those tools. Instead of sanding your projects by hand, just run it through our wide belt sander and get a nice, even sand without having to exhaust your arms. The wide belt sander is also the only tool in the shop that can be used by members or non-members because the American Workshop staff will operate the sander for you. Because the staff operates the sander, there is a small up-charge to use the sander, but again, it sure beats having to sand by hand!
Member Price – $1.00 per minute
Non-Member Price – $2.50 per minute
